Standard Overdraft Coverage
We understand that life is busy. From time to time, anyone can lose track of how much money is available in their checking or money market account.
When you need available funds, both our Standard Overdraft Coverage and Regions Overdraft Protection may be available to eligible accounts.
In the event that you do experience an overdraft in your checking account, Regions Overdraft Grace allows you to quickly make a deposit or transfer funds to your account to help you avoid overdraft fees. Learn more about Regions Overdraft Grace.
Standard Overdraft Coverage
Regions Standard Overdraft Coverage is a service we provide on many checking accounts that may cover transactions if you overdraw the available funds in your account. If we make Standard Overdraft Coverage available to you, we may pay your check, ACH and recurring debit card transactions even if you don’t have sufficient available balance in your account, which may result in an overdraft fee. If you opt in to Standard Overdraft Coverage for ATM and everyday (nonrecurring) debit card transactions, we may authorize and pay these transactions into overdraft. Our Paid Overdraft Item fee is $36 and is subject to change.[1] We will charge you no more than three (3) Paid Overdraft Item fees per day. There is no charge if we return a check or other item unpaid due to insufficient funds. When the available balance in your personal account is overdrawn by $5 or less after end-of-day processing, we will not charge you a Paid Overdraft Item Fee for items that post that day.
If you decide you do not want Standard Overdraft Coverage for ATM and everyday (nonrecurring) debit card transactions, your everyday (nonrecurring) debit card and ATM transactions will be declined when your available balance is insufficient to cover the transaction. This will not prevent all overdrafts — it means we will decline to authorize transactions at the point of sale or withdrawal if the money is not available at the time of the transaction and you will not be charged an overdraft fee.
With Regions Overdraft Grace, you can get a little extra time to make a deposit to your personal checking account or transfer funds from another account to cover an overdraft. When one business day's transactions overdraw your account’s available balance by more than $5, you’ll have until 8 p.m. Central Time the next business day to add funds to the account. As long as your checking account's available balance is positive or isn't overdrawn by more than $5 after nightly processing for that next business day, we won’t charge you an overdraft fee.
Declining Standard Overdraft Coverage
You may request us not to provide Standard Overdraft Coverage on your account. In this case, checks and electronic (ACH) debits will be returned, and ATM and everyday (non-recurring) debit card transactions will be declined if there are insufficient available funds in your account to cover the transactions. However, recurring debit card transactions may still be paid into overdraft, which may result in an overdraft fee. To decline Standard Overdraft Coverage on your account, visit your local branch.
To change your Standard Overdraft Coverage election, visit a Regions branch, call 1-800-947-2265 or log in to Regions Online Banking.
